About the Spill

On April 20, 2010 there was a fatal explosion on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig, operating off of the coast of Louisiana.  The offshore drilling rig then sank and caused one of the largest oil spills in U.S. History.  As a result of the explosion, 11 workers are feared dead.

It has been estimated that between 5 and 25 thousand barrels of crude oil a day are spilling into the Gulf of Mexico.  This is expected to cause unprecedented environmental damage and will likely result in billions of dollars of damage to Gulf Coast businesses and property owners.
